The Martian (5 points)

As I read The Martian, I realized that this book is funny and has a terrifying realism to the story. The story takes place on mars, indicating that the astronaut is The Martian. He explains the narrations through the Sols he has been on mars. It is how many days he has been on mars. In his mind, he describes how he got to this state, where he is stuck on Mars. Away from any human life. He is alone and trapped on a desolate planet.  Now he is not left there on purpose, but he has to stay there. The harsh environments and the gusting winds in the book stand out as the most dangerous aspect. In a scientific explanation, his equipment could be destroyed. To elaborate further, having no oxygen or limited oxygen is more hazardous to the human body; without oxygen, Mark's brain could shut off from its lack.  In the world of mars, he tries to survive the planet. He does so through his botanist skills. For example, planting potatoes seeds and figuring out how to use mar's soil. I find i

Anansi Boys (6 points)

A fantasy novel to talk about, ok. Anansi Boys has some of the best writing of Neil Gaimen, who also wrote American Gods. I thought that this was the longest novel not in a trilogy series. So where to even start in such a long book and when I mean it is long, it’s that long.  The book just felt alive. It had all the fantastic elements to a fantasy book. I mean magic was a huge part of the book. It was done in a way that felt like a Neil Gaimen's book. I saw the tv show American Gods but never read his books. So to read a book of his was just great. One of the main characters I really liked is Spider, yes his name is Spider. At the same time not really. His realism to the world that is created makes that believable. His lore develops him as a character. Spider is a great example of character development.  I also enjoyed reading about the magical combining in with the realism of elements. For example, a part in the book is when Charlie alters reality, another character in the book.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdom (6 points)

The Hundred Thousand Kingdom is fantasy that has heart to the book. Much of the book resembled a Game of Thrones era to it. There are Heirs, gods, and kingdoms ruled by people. However, most of all is betrayal.  When I opened the first page of this book, I just knew that it was a must read. It is something that I wanted to keep on reading and reading. Over and over again the book is a fantastic story of fantasy. The fantasy in the book just makes it feel natural and orderly to the world building. For someone who never read this book before, the writing was very easy to read because it had dialogue.  So when reading the book, I loved it. I cannot stop talking about how much I really enjoyed reading it. Everything about the book was great. The fantasy elements were almost like King Arthur's stories. In fact, there is a granddaughter of a famous individual. It makes the characters become more involved in the book. Furthermore, the book transfers the main character into the place cal

The Golden Compass trilogy series (8 points)

The Golden Compass is a fantasy genre book series that I wanted to keep reading. I thought that this series was amazing. It was amazing it dealt with problems related to history. The church's amount of power. It felt as if it was all over the place, the amount of churches power over everything. Almost as if it was swallowing up the world itself. Once I started reading one of the books. I wanted to read more and more. I never thought of bringing a comparison like this. I never thought that a polar bear would look so cool. The armor that it has on is made of, feels right to looking and fitting into this world. I also thought that the world created had some steampunk elements.  With it’s flying vehicles and how the people look. Lyra is a young girl who is the main character. Lyra is part of the universe and not a person who is in our world In the Narnia book series, the characters open a closet door to that universe; in the first book. Lyla begins in the world as it is. Speaking of

The Night Circus (6 points)

The Night Circus is an interesting take on the Narrative of Spiritual Education. I found myself wanting to read more because I am not a huge fan of this genre category. I was enrolled in this universe that takes place in Victorian London. For this reason, in particular, the story is about the magic that happens in a circus. I do not even like the circus and yet I wanted more from this book. Another aspect of the book that I liked is that the book was almost like a dream or a fairy tale. It didn't feel realistic; however, that does not matter. The book created a lore that is easy for the reader to understand. It was understandable not just from a blogger’s perspective but also for an everyday reader.  I especially was interested in how they talked about acrobatics. I could imagine myself flying through the stage and doing those crazy stunts. Even mire was the magic I was reading in the book. I mean that literally because illusionists show the true meaning of magic. Celia is one of t

Gormenghast trilogy series (10 points)

I read all 3 of the books and I say for a fact that it reminded me a lot like Game of Thrones. It is not a bad thing to feel that way when reading. I mean the book involves lords and ladies, heirs to kingdoms. For all fantasy books are just inspirations from the medieval era. The adventure of the story is also there, the thrill of danger takes many tales of this. So the main plot revolves around a castle, which is the title. The nobles live there as well, including the main character Titus, a probable reference to Shakespeare. Maybe the author wanted to take true fantasy into the work. The main character could be named for that reason.  In the first book it starts out with Titus' birth, to be heir to the throne. Titus is only a minor character as it revolves around other people because he is just an infant. The Game of Thrones plots happen where people will die from fighting. Even the end of the book ends with someone dying, a subplot in the story. The main plot has a flame that tr

Akata Witch (5 points)

I find the book to be more of a feel-good reading about witches, than one like the tv show American Horror Story season 3. The book is different than other ones. To begin the plot, a twelve-year-old girl named Sunny has amazing athletic abilities but she cannot go outside in the sun. Unbeknownst to her, she is a witch and has powers. Soon she learns magic with other students, like a coven. In most stories that have covens, they are terrifying. However, this is more whimsical than anything else.  Even the cover of the book feels happy and pleasant. It makes the reader feel free of movement in the plot of the story. To further elaborate, the story wanted to show that Sunny is a free spirit. The colors of the cover are to show how Sunny can use her magic. Indefinitely, the book wants to show it has pleasantries, not the horrifying book it should be.  I find even more interesting about the book is it is almost like a detective story as well. In finding a killer. The killer has magical powe
