Akata Witch (5 points)

I find the book to be more of a feel-good reading about witches, than one like the tv show American Horror Story season 3. The book is different than other ones. To begin the plot, a twelve-year-old girl named Sunny has amazing athletic abilities but she cannot go outside in the sun. Unbeknownst to her, she is a witch and has powers. Soon she learns magic with other students, like a coven. In most stories that have covens, they are terrifying. However, this is more whimsical than anything else.

Even the cover of the book feels happy and pleasant. It makes the reader feel free of movement in the plot of the story. To further elaborate, the story wanted to show that Sunny is a free spirit. The colors of the cover are to show how Sunny can use her magic. Indefinitely, the book wants to show it has pleasantries, not the horrifying book it should be.

I find even more interesting about the book is it is almost like a detective story as well. In finding a killer. The killer has magical powers. Sunny is thrown into catching the killer. A most interesting tale in a book related to witches. Indeed a very creative one that holds much expectation.

She is very sensitive to the sun. Why? Well, the book wants the plot to keep moving forward. Although she wants to go outside and be able to play football. But she cannot because she is so sensitive to the sun. It is a real disease that very few people have. So to have a rare disease is destructive to the freedom she wants.

In finishing my blog, I think this novel is different in a good way. I find this book to have its dark moments. However, most of the book feels happy and warm in the plot. The opinion I think anyway. Others could say the opposite that the book is dark. I truly believe that this book is the best of times in its plot.
