The Martian (5 points)

As I read The Martian, I realized that this book is funny and has a terrifying realism to the story. The story takes place on mars, indicating that the astronaut is The Martian. He explains the narrations through the Sols he has been on mars. It is how many days he has been on mars. In his mind, he describes how he got to this state, where he is stuck on Mars. Away from any human life. He is alone and trapped on a desolate planet.

Now he is not left there on purpose, but he has to stay there. The harsh environments and the gusting winds in the book stand out as the most dangerous aspect. In a scientific explanation, his equipment could be destroyed. To elaborate further, having no oxygen or limited oxygen is more hazardous to the human body; without oxygen, Mark's brain could shut off from its lack.

In the world of mars, he tries to survive the planet. He does so through his botanist skills. For example, planting potatoes seeds and figuring out how to use mar's soil. I find it just fascinating that he was able to survive that way. Mark, the character I have been talking about this entire time, is waiting to return home to his earth.

Now when I saw the movie, I thought it lacked substance. One reason is that we do not get to hear Mark's thoughts. All we see is through his perspective and eyes. However, when reading the book, we understand the character much better. It is funny because he makes fun of the situation he is in.

I noticed that the book has many curse words, but that's what makes it a believable situation. Mark feels trapped and unsure if he will get back to earth. It is hard to believe that this book's elements are so realistic to the dangers of being in space, especially on mars. The book seems to show the aspects of what it is like to be an astronaut.

To conclude, I thought it was like a battle to be won within the human mind when reading this book. Mark had to be both cunning and creative to survive on Mars. Even though the book is a fictional one, it was almost as if the story took place in modern times, but it is fictional because it is just a book. However, the book is one of the best in modern times.
