Annihilation (6 points)

The book Annihilation is a revelation of a book. This book follows in the weird category for the horror genre. A reason being that the book follows that type of category is that the main characters go into an area known as Area X. A coastal zone known as Area X, seems very sketchy to begin with. It just sounds like the book belongs in this category.  So I found that book was interesting because of how it describes the plot. The plot is one filled with plot points that resemble a horror story. A fear being the expedition that took place. It is one that has twists and turns in the book. The characters within a certain period of time die off. So the four characters are very interesting. Each one of them has a role to play in their expedition.  The narrator is a botanist who witnesses the events that occur. A psychologist who is part of the group. It is more interesting that a psychologist needs to come on an expedition. I think it shows how fragile the characters become in the story. The

In The Miso Soup (5 points)

In the Miso Soup is the basis of any Japanese horror novel. I mean that its ideas are one that tells a deeper truth behind the novel. An idea that keeps repeating throughout the book. For instance, Kenji, the main character of the book, is a tour guide. He gets a job from a guy named Frank. In the book later, the audience discovers that Frank is a sociopath. A murderer who commits gruesome acts. It sounds so disgusting. A revolting book in a gruesome fictional world. However, what is more, disgusting is how there are minor characters. Only two characters matter, Kenji, and Frank, only those characters. When examining the book further though, the two characters make sense as they were always meant to meet. The story cannot move forward without the two characters because they revolve around the plot. As the fictional world is a nightmare. I believe that the book is a horror story. I honestly think that because of the elements that play in the book. Even the ending is a nightmare. I f

Interview With A Vampire 6 points

The book is one of the best vampire books to read, besides twilight or Dracula. When reading the book, I wondered why it was written in a dialogue way. It then hit me; a person is interviewing with a guy who claims he is a vampire. As the title suggests, someone is interviewing a real vampire. The reason being that the book was so enjoyable to read. A vampire is telling someone about his life. It is risky because the discovery of vampires could threaten his life. Maybe Louis the vampire that is being interviewed. He needs a way to cope with his life and uses the interview as a therapy session. I also have to say that Louis is a vampire who has qualities of human behavior. He cares for people, like the daughter he raised for part of the story. His daughter is a vampire he turned; she will never get to grow up. The vampire has regrets for not being able to choose between being a vampire and a human. He shows regret as the vampire is immortal, so he lives a long life. To experience all

The Picture of Dorian Gray (4 points)

I found this book to be very interesting. When reading this book, I would have never thought that beauty was a central theme in the book. Dorian wants to stay young forever, in a philosophical ideal. He is all about not aging; in fact, he is almost immortal. However, consequences from the sins he commits leaves his soul scared forever.  As painting keeps getting more disgusting with each sin he commits. The reason being is that the painting has to bear Dorian old age. Dorian does this because he sees the painting and realizes he will age. The painting will not.  Now when each sin is committed from Dorian. It is almost very similar to the seven deadly sins. He murders, steals, and does other things in the book. Do you see what I mean about philosophy? It is all about the sins he commits, even though he does not age at all. His friend Lord Bryan is the complete opposite of Dorian. He believes that beauty should not last forever, therefore making it beautiful. To elaborate, beauty is the

Frankenstein 4 points

Frankenstein is one of a kind book. One of the big reasons why it is one of a kind book is that this is a creation story where the creation is abandoned by the creator. For those who do not know what a creation story is, is best described as someone or something that creates a new being. For example, in the bible, Adam and Eve were created from god. However, similarly to how the monster in Frankenstein rebels against its creator, Eve eats from the fruit of the apple. Any who getting back to Frankenstein, the scientist is one that does not take responsibility to teach his creation of morality and abandons the creature. Just as Mary Shelley was dealing with abandonment of the loss of her mother and children. Since the creature was abandoned it was not taught to learn from right and wrong of a person's actions. Even though the monster is highly intelligent and has human facial features, the monster does not know how to behave differently. Instead, the monster despised Frankenstein f

Autonomous (5 points)

When reading this book, I saw a dystopian future centered around drugs. Yes I am not kidding around. The everyday person has to take prescription drugs. It is as if the drugs were a constant source and were overly used by everyone. The main drug is one that gets people addicted to work more. Really, that sounds so unhealthy. Now the reality about this book is that it tries to bring light in modern times. The main characters are named Jack, Paladin, and Elias. The book keeps alternating between Jack and Paladin/Elias. It’s main reason is to show the consequences of the characters actions. In fact, much of the book revolves around choices. It is why the book is a cyberpunk universe because of the consequences of character actions.  I can tell that this is a cyberpunk universe because Paladin is a military robot. The world is full of dystopian elements. It has science fiction pieces and it takes place in the future. Most cyberpunk universes are far into the future, but they try to explain

Altered Carbon 6 points

The book is an extremely cool one. The setting is one of the neon lights around the world Its universe is one where people are immortal, and a body is known as a sleeve. A person cannot die if the stack does not die, digitized consciousness. An idea of immortality shown throughout the book. It is one of a kind cyberpunk genre, as it tells an unbelievable story. The story of finding the mystery of the death of Mr.Bancrofts sleeve. It is a mystery written almost like reading dialogue and thoughts from Kovacs. Although, the story of his death is overly complex, creating an innovative conspiracy that takes. The conspiracy theory of why Mr. Bancroft's sleeve was killed and in turn discovers a horrific secret, under the new resolution to be passed. A new law that would allow victims to testify against religious organizations. The elements of the cyberpunk genre play out in the book. For instance, the book has futuristic flying cars in the book. The book also has A.I robots, explai
